The Hoke County School System has hosted their annual Walk for Hunger and Homelessness for six years. Every year before the Thanksgiving Holidays, The Student Support Services Department gathers students, administrative staff, social workers, teachers and a host of others to rally at the Raz Autry Stadium at Hoke County High School to walk for homelessness. Each student that participates has the opportunity to receive community service hours dependent upon the number of laps they walk around the Raz Autry Stadium. Local business, and County Officials, State Representatives and community members are invited and receive the opportunity to speak. This year Hoke County Schools collected 14,126 cans and non-perishable items as well as household and clothing items. The local Help Store, and local families within and outside of the community will receive the items collected.
Hurricane Matthew hit Hoke, Cumberland, Robeson and surrounding counties very hard. Some families lost homes, loved ones and schools were closed up to 3 weeks due to flooding. We are continually working here at Hoke County Schools to better facilitate our families in need.
