Wenatchee, WA: Housing Codes and Definition of Substandard Housing
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act's definition of "homeless" includes children and youth living in "substandard housing". Since the federal law does not outline a specific definition of "substandard housing", states and communities are encouraged to use state and/or local building codes and norms when determining how it will define "substandard housing". This information from Wenatchee, WA, can be used as an example of one county's housing codes and definition of "substandard housing".
